Better Call Saul

Anyone else catch the premiere last night? There was a lot of table-setting, but there was nothing to suggest it wasn't going to be worth my time.

looking forward to it. recorded it last night - tough call to run against the grammy's, especially with a teenager in the house.

It was a little slow, but Monday's episode was fantastic...a great blend of humor and drama.

Would this show make sense to someone who never watched Breaking Bad?
Virtually everything GOP critics have told us would follow from the policies put in place has not come to pass. You would think that this would occasion a few mea culpas, some rethinking, an admission of poor prognostication. But, alas, it continues.

I might give it a shot. Justified is in its final season and Sons of Anarchy is done. I could stand to pick up a show.

Just watched #2 today. I'm in for #3. I'm not blown away but I'm entertained. Good enough.

Rather than start a new thread, here is the next in an occasional series of total tv radio dump.
Ok the first in the series.
Ok probably not even a series since I probably won't do it again.

1. Just finished House of Cards-Season 3. Definitely a step down from Seasons 1 and 2. Which made me think about other teevee shows that seem to kind of lose their mojo. Following are a couple of others.

2. Orange is the New Black-Liked Season 1. Never finished Season 2.

3. Parks and Rec and Modern Family-Used to watch religiously, now just occasionally. We record it and end up deleting more episodes without watching it than we actually watch. Especially Parks and Rec seems to be trying too hard.

4. The Good Wife-Haven't really lost their mojo so much has been really uneven. At least twice this year I've forced myself to get through an episode, because I knew I'd be watching the next episode anyway. It's probably me not them.

5. Better Call Saul-It's fine. Better than most, but I have to say it's not like I'm waiting for the next episode to be ready so I can watch it immediately.

6. Indiana vs. Wichita State-F

Pretty much agree on all points, Hoosie. Except number 6, can't get past the warm-up clown pants.

Found my new fave to be Sherlock, the English version with Benedict Cumberbatch. Only 3 episodes per season and only 3 seasons so far. Each episode is 90 mins and no commercials. Brilliant!

Yes. I had just started this when House of Cards was released, so I knocked out HoC. I'll start this back up at some point.

I think James Spader is a great actor. Not sure why I never tried this, so maybe I will.

The Americans- excellent

Justified- very strong final season

Shameless- not as good as last season, but I still really like it.

Man Seeking Woman- basically a live action cartoon. I think it's brilliant.

Broad City- the funniest/most original comedy on TV right now.

Spader is the reason to watch Black list, through there are some solid supporters. I've always liked the bad guy who you like because he is by far the smartest guy in the room type of thriller

I will say the show got formulaic in the 2nd half of the 1st season. It's almost as though they were marking time for a few episodes surprised they were picked up for another season while they figured out some long term story arcs. They've done that in a big way

Haven't seen the last episode but I have liked what they're doing so far. The episode they flesh out Mike's background was fantastic.

Agree w/both. Mike's back story ramped it up and the class action suit kicked it into overdrive. No spoilers please. I screwed something up watching on my Kindle and got out of sequence. :old:

The first and last episode of Better Call Saul were below average. Everything in between was great.

Every episode title ended in "o" except for one.

When did "Seasons" become 10 episodes?

When they started valuing writing and production quality over filling gaps between commercials. Most decent TV today is more like the old miniseries than traditional episodic tv.

Good point.

I didn't think the last episode was that bad. Seems like Season 1 was just a tease, but waiting until 2016 for Season 2 is too long. Hope it doesn't out last my notoriously short attention span...

Yeah, we're seeing big changes in the way tv audiences work for sure. I'm guessing we'll see a lot more shows switching between cable, broadcast and streaming as time goes by. Better call Saul second season on Netflix 6 months before broadcast, etc.
